What is causing repeated tomato blight?

by Gardener

I have grown tomatoes in my summer time garden for over 30 years. About 3 years ago with late rains (after tomatoes were planted), the tomato plants would succumb to a blight.

First, small blotches would appear on leaves and they would wilt then on stems and so forth until the once vigorous 5'-7'tomato plant turns brown then black and dies.

Last year I planted in 15 gal pots in the area of the garden for the sunshine and in other areas (decks away from garden) and eventually all succumb to the same death. Could you tell me what is causing this?
