Tomatoes grow, thrive, then wilt, turn yellow and die
I had this issue w/ Tomatillos and now found it on my tomatoes.
My tomatoes grow, thrive, and then they wilt, turn yellow and die.
The stem splits open at the bottom and I say they are eggs, my husband says it's scale. Except the scale never turns opaque & it's all over the outside of the stem and inside the split itself. There are these little brown leaf-hopper like things that try to hide when you see them. Not many, just one or two. They're about an inch long, brown, and look like mini grasshoppers without the big head and big back legs.
I don't want to spray my garden w/ pesticides. I don't know what this little thing is but its killed two seasons of tomatillos and it's ruined two tomato plants. I swear it's the bug. The plants were healthy otherwise and wouldn't have split open on the stem.
