Tomatoes are rotting in a ring around the stem end (shoulder)

by Nancy

We planted 10 very healthy tomato plants around June... they were strong with thick stems, and a healthy, beautiful green.

They grew fine and eventually had plenty of tomatoes but about 2 weeks ago some of the leaves and stems started to get yellow.

Then I noticed the tomatoes themselves were rotting around the shoulder area of the tomato. It's like they're rotting from the inside out. What could be the cause. I've searched online and haven't found anything that matches.

Any ideas?
