Black bottom tomato.

Black bottom tomato.

Before the tomatoes have turned red, the bottom turns dark and eventually black. Why is this happening, and is there any prevention?

Blossom end rot? NEW
by: Anonymous

It sounds like blossom end rot brought about by a calcium deficiency in the soil. Cal-Mag is an excellent additive to water in to give immediate relief but you also might try planting with a few Tums in the planting hole as well(Calcium Carbonate). Also, "Tomato Maker" is a good organic method to help those plants along and used in organic gardening.

Good luck!
