Tomato branches look cut

branches look like they have been pruned at the main stem about 4 inches up from the ground. one plant was cut at the main stem about an inch above ground. Any ideas what could be doing that? Thanks,

Cut Worm Likely Cause NEW

Sounds like the work of a cutworm, especially the part about an inch off the ground. Any good tomato dust should take care of them--of course wash any fruit picked after dusting.
