My better boy tomatoes were thriving, but now the blooms shrivel

I planted 2 better boy plants in a single large container. They started out great! I had blooms that turned into tomatoes and more blooms formed that turned into tomatoes and then.......blooms formed above but they're drying up and falling off and the tomatoes that are growing already have stopped and aren't getting any larger - what's up with that??

Blossom drop
by: Anonymous

You're experiencing blossom drop! Per Robert Hendrickson's book, large fruited varieties are the most susceptible. It happens mostly in hot, dry periods or cold, rainy periods.

You can encourage fruit set in the blossoms by shaking the plants or using blossom-set hormone spray. Other diseases can also cause the blooms to shrivel.

Other controls: keep the plants mulched or well-watered, and do not overfeed with nitrogen, which encourages green growth more than fruit.
