I have tomato plants in 5-gal. buckets. Producing some nice tomatoes and beautiful plants but the fruit seems to have splits and cracks. Am I over watering?
I have read that this is caused by inconsistent watering. The plants like to be watered on a regular schedule, otherwise the skin will harden and crack.
I water daily with a mister for about 30 min. at roughly the same time each day (adjust for mother nature doing her thing).
Once I got into this pattern the plants stopped producing cracked tomatoes and the texture of the skin is softer. Hope this help.
These are in a garden, not a pot.

Cracking Tomatoes by: Anonymous
I have had cracked tomatoes after we have had a heavy rain after a dry period or have watered by hand too much.
