Black spots on bottom of tomatoes

by Linda Hodgkins
(Brevard, NC)

I have some wonderfully growing tomato plants that are green right now. However, I noticed on some tomatoes there is a large to medium black spot on the very bottom of the tomato fruit. The leaves are all healthy. I have looked at sites on my computer for this problem, but none of the photos of diseases seem to resemble this condition. Do I keep removing the damaged tomatoes?

Thank you.

The black on the bottom of the tomatoes is most likely a calcium deficiency.
